The project Designshop will encourage a group of students to look closely at St. Eriks’ High School as a working environment. In this specific environment, students has been asked to locate and identify malfunctions that somehow could be approved or radically changed. The project - which comes out of an initiative by Annica Adsenius, teacher of St. Erik’s High school - has been planned and put together in collaboration with the independent art space Index, bringing in artist Karin Johnson, and architect Fredrik Stenberg finalising the project’s motives, functioning as tutors and discussion partners for participating students.

Within the framework of Designshop, students from different educations has been invited to work with professional artists and designers, as a part of the school’s ”Project work” (100 points). Designshop thus will consist of five months (August – December 2006) of effective research, identification of the problematic areas within the texture of school’s architecture and everyday and, ultimately, suggestions of how these finally could be bettered. The project will end in a presentation, in a format that eventually will be decided from out of the different suggestions raised by the students. The project's homepage, designed by Lina Åberg and Victor Moberger, can att all times be visited on www.designshop.cc

Designshop has been possible for students from all education at the school to choose, regardless of their educational interest and direction. Furthermore, students together with a working group consisting of rector, teachers, Index’ staff, and the tutors, are left with the responsability for the operative process. Designshop considers and profit from the student’s experiences as an individual user of the school’s mileu, giving the student a possibility of both understanding and suggesting a change of the processes that forms the school as a working environment.

The Index exhibition programme is curated Markus Degerman, Andreas Gedin, Helena Holmberg, Mats Stjernstedt and Niklas Östholm.
