Dora García: Real artists don't have teeth

Real artists don't have teeth is a performance monologue by the Spanish artist Dora García. It will be premiered Tuesday March 9 in Moderna Museet Biografen, as a part of García's exhibition at Index in Stockholm. Tinted by the artist's characteristic dark humour, the performance work examines the complexity in issues related to censorship, audience-artist relationships, mainstream and marginality. Real artists don't have teeth, that compose a part of García's work series Mad Marginals, has been produced by Index.
The work of Spanish artist Dora García explore certain expressions taken from popular culture processed in real time and through a fictionalized course of events. Fiction becomes her one important tool since the artist has no intention of building reconstructions of history, but rather to offer possible scenarios where conventions concerning ethics and morals are being challenged.

The performance is presented in Swedish and features actor Jakob Tamm. Tamm was educated at Drama Centre London and has been working at Göteborgs Stadsteater, Folkteatern i Gävleborg, Dalateatern, Stockholms Stadsteater, Orionteatern and Västanå Teater. Jakob Tamm acted in Pleasure, a co-production between Riksteatern and Teater Västernorrland, which was also broadcasted in Swedish Television.

Real artists don't have teeth is presented in a collaboration with Moderna Museet.

Dora García's exhibition at Index is realised through the support of Sociedad Estatal para la Acción Cultural Exterior (SEACEX), Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Spain, and Instituto Cervantes, Stockholm.
