amusic - Performance in connection with release of CD “Henrik Andersson”.

Dave Allen, ‘Inverted oh-ton’
Index, Firework Edition Records and the Baltic Art Center are pleased to present a newly produced audio CD by the artist Henrik Andersson. The CD contains a total of eight tracks with works from the period 2004 - 2005. In connection with the release party at Club Ugglan, Index presents three music-related performances under the common title “amusic”.
Science is a Stockholm-based band consisting of Niklas Korsell (drums), Björn Ehlers (guitar) and Henrik Andersson (bass) principally focused on improvisation. For their performance at Ugglan, they combine the musical tradition of working with silence, meaning that the music they play is amplified and heard by the audience in an adjacent room. Thus the audience must choose whether to see the band or hear them play.
Dave Allen (Glasgow and Stockholm) presents his work, ‘Inverted oh-ton’ which could be described as a remix of music composed by German ensemble oh-ton (Kirsten Reese, Eckart Beinke and Frederic Rzewski). In this performance work, which lasts approx. 30 mins, Dave Allen uses two vinyl records of the same recording. On one record the sound is inverted, meaning that played separately the records sound identical, but played simultaneously on the same audio equipment the sound negates itself – what remains is silence. In Dave Allen’s efforts to play the records in absolute synchronisation, so that music becomes silence, we could say he takes the position of an anti-DJ.
Ida Lundén performs the work ‘Han’ based on a large number of inherited EP singles featuring Free-Church singer, Artur Eriksson. Ida Lundén has edited out Artur Eriksson as he longingly sings the word ‘han’ (he) or ‘honom’ (him). The words then create the tone for a new score that Lundén uses and performs on an electronic organ. Besides the feminist subtext inherent in the work, the artist uses the power of religious song’s message of love and the implicit desire for human interaction, expressed here in Artur Eriksson’s tempting and serene voice.
CD “Henrik Andersson” is available this evening for 100:-. It will then be distributed by Firework Edition Records, Index bookshop, and Baltic Art Center, Visby.
