OPEN CALL FOR PUBLISH AND BE DAMNED: NORDIC MODELS
Deadline for applications is 29 August 2012, 5 p.m. GMT.

On 12-13 October 2012 Index – The Swedish Contemporary Art Foundation will host Publish and be Damned: Nordic Models, a two-day convention that brings together alternative modes of publishing and distribution from Denmark, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.

Alongside our invited guests, we are pleased to offer a number of stalls by open submission to small-scale publishers and distributors from Scandinavia and the Nordic region. We are particularly keen to hear from producers with a record of magazines, fanzines and pamphlets involving local and international networks. The stalls are free of change. Travel and a contribution to the accommodation costs will be paid for the selected publishers.

About the project

Index – The Swedish Contemporary Art Foundation has invited the UK organisation Publish And Be Damned to convene a conference by artists, curators and theorists and a fair with international publishers and distributors selling and trading their printed matter (books, fanzines, magazines, ephemera, etc.). These will consider how pragmatic and alternative approaches diverge and cross-model within the specific cultural, economic, social and technological conditions in Scandinavian and other Nordic contexts.

The convention will raise the following questions:
·      what are self-sustainable models in self-publishing practice?
·      how might a shared direction of socially-minded and collaborative processes be fostered?
·      what are the relationships between trade and community?
·      how might these intersect with literature, poetry, philosophy, politics and translation?

The convention will also encourage exchange within and beyond Nordic social and professional networks in view to establish new synergies, alliances and strategic co-operations.

How to apply

To apply please send to office@indexfoundation.se a brief description of your publishing activities (up to 100 words), including a link to your website, as well as images and details of what your stall may include.
